Soapbox, Take Two

And just when you thought it was over, when never again would you come across a rambling, multi-thousand word blog entry on some horrifically obscure item of pop culture and its statements on social science, this blog shows up.

Though my own personal S/S/F withdrawal is not as bad as I thought it might be, I find that outlets for long rants on the metaphysical pretensions of Heinlein or Banks are few and far between. I suppose it will only get worse as the new The Day the Earth Stood Still comes out, or Watchmen hits theatres next year... Where can a S/S/F alumnus go to vent (or chastize)?

Hence, "Sarlaac's Stomach." Think of it as an informal continuation of our class blogging, open to any past members of the finest course in academia. PTJ said that each time he runs the class, the different personalities involved create a different "feel," focusing on different strains present in each text. I think it will be interesting to see how people from different years of the class interact.

As soon as I came up with the title, I knew I had to actually go out and write the thing. To quote C-3PO, in Sarlacc's Stomach, "you will find a new definition of pain and suffering as you are slowly digested over a thousand years." This is my hope for this blog: the slow, painful, thousand-year digestion of our beloved Social/Science/Fiction. I think it sounds like fun...
